INCLEMENT WEATHER PROTOCOLS

Dear Marcola School District Families,

As we enter the season of unpredictable weather, we want to remind you of our procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.

In the Event of Severe Weather or Emergency:

  • School Closures or Delays:
Announcements regarding school closures or delayed openings due to snow, ice, or other emergencies will be broadcast on local radio stations and posted online at FlashAlert.net. Please check these sources regularly for the latest updates. Notifications will also be sent out by the district via email, text, and phone messages.

  • Transportation Adjustments (if applicable):

Bus routes may experience delays due to road conditions. Please allow extra time for pick-up/drop-off. Possible bus route scenarios:

    Snow routes:

    • Howard Rd Route: The bus will not travel up Howard Rd. Pickup will be at the bottom of Howard Rd from 7:00 to 7:10 AM.

    • Wendling Rd Route:  The bus will not travel up Paul’s Rd. Pickup will be at the bottom of Paul’s Rd.

    • Parsons Creek Rd Route: The bus will turn around at Pentilla Ln. Pickup for students who live past Pentilla Ln will be 7:15-7:20 AM.

    2 hr Delay routes:

    • Busses will pick up 2 hours later than normal.

  • Keeping Students at School:
If an emergency makes it unsafe to transport children, they will remain at school under staff supervision until conditions improve and it is safe to transport them.

  • Early Dismissals:
In some cases, weather conditions, power outages, or other emergencies may require us to send students home early. Please ensure you have a back-up plan in place. This plan should include:

    • The location your child will go to (e.g., a relative, neighbor, etc.) if you are not home.

    • A local contact person we can reach if we are unable to get in touch with you.

It is important that the school has your current contact information on file. If you need to update your details, please promptly contact your child’s school office.

We appreciate your cooperation and preparation in helping us respond effectively to any weather-related or emergency situations. Please feel free to reach out to your school office with any questions or concerns.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter, and stay safe this season!
