SEPT 2024 ESPY

Marcola School District Board Members want to Recognize our students monthly for exceptional performance at school.

ESPY: Exceptional Student Performance this Year – award is given to students doing well academically and having an exceptionally positive attitude about school. They demonstrate respect and responsibility towards staff and their peers.  They show courage by not conforming to Peer pressure and refusing to accept anyone who bullies.

The MSD School Board and the District want to recognize these students by celebrating their success at the beginning of each monthly Board Meeting.  Students receive a certificate, meet each of our Board members, and their names are announced on the district website.

September 2024 ESPY Winners are;

Octavian Prock - Kindergarten nominated by Jen Krebs

“Octavian entered kindergarten ready to learn and ready to help. He always tries his best in the classroom and works hard on his academic work.

Beyond that, he often looks for ways to be helpful or kind to others. If he sees others drop paper towels on the floor in the bathroom, he takes it upon himself to quietly and joyfully pick them up. If he beats someone to the line and they are disappointed, he gladly offers them his spot. If he notices someone is sad about losing a game, he finds a way to help them win too.

Octavian is such a light in the classroom, and kindergarten is a better place because of him.”

Caleb Mars - 6th grade nominated by MMS Staff

“The transition to middle school can be difficult for students. But Caleb arrived to our middle school classes ready to tackle academic challenges. He demonstrates consistent focus in class, intellectual curiosity, and attention to detail.

Caleb is a student we can count on to be respectful and responsible every day in our classes. Caleb works diligently in class, completing assignments well and on time.

Typically, a student has one academic strength. But Caleb has done exceptional work in all his classes. In math, he is beginning an accelerated coursework plan in order to take HS Algebra in 8th grade. In MakerSpace last week, Caleb noticed a sequence of numbers on the board of Mr. Mercer's high school math classes. To Mr. Mercer's surprise, Caleb told him what the next numbers in the pattern would be. Those numbers had been on the board for days, and none of the high school math students had figured it out. We are all excited to see Caleb's academic path as a student at Mohawk!”

Hannah Baker - 11th grade nominated by MHS Staff

From the beginning of the school year through September, Hannah has remained consistently engaged, positive, and hardworking. Her attendance has been perfect, and she brings a positive attitude and willingness to learn, which motivates those around her.

Hannah is always prepared, willing to participate, and asks thoughtful questions. She is an active participant in Spanish class, contributing to class discussions, working well in group activities, and scoring highly on assessments. She completes her work on time and thoughtfully.

Hannah is respectful to both her teachers and her peers. Although she is new this year to Mohawk, she has already developed friendships among her peers and made an impression on our staff with her strong character and positive attitude.

These students are all shining examples of the MSD spirit, and we are thrilled to be able to recognize them for being exceptional students.
