Marcola School District Board Members want to Recognize our students monthly for exceptional performance at school.
ESPY: Exceptional Student Performance this Year – award is given to students doing well academically and having an exceptionally positive attitude about school. They demonstrate respect and responsibility towards staff and their peers. They show courage by not conforming to Peer pressure and refusing to accept anyone who bullies.
The MSD School Board and the District want to recognize these students by celebrating their success at the beginning of each monthly Board Meeting. Students receive a certificate, meet each of our Board members, and their names are announced on the district website.
December 2023 ESPY Winners are;
Karsyn Johns - 1st grade nominated by Michelle Mercer
“Karsyn comes to school everyday with a smile that never stops! His happy light shines bright with a love for learning and always trying his very best!
Karsyn is a kind friend to all, as shown by how he invites others to join, shares, takes turns, sometimes lets others go first, and is always ready to help or encourage others.
Karsyn consistently turns quality work in on time. He has made crazy wonderful reading growth! He is also quite the math whiz! One of his many math strengths, besides working with a partner, is the ability to explain how he solves different problems, step by step.
1st grade is really lucky to have such a bright shining light of a student and friend. Keep up your hard work, and never stop smiling Karsyn!”
Kassi Turner - 7th grade nominated by MMS Staff
“Kassi is a great role model for other students! She has a positive attitude and is polite. She is always extremely respectful and genuinely kind to her peers, teachers, and staff.
Kassi takes being a student very seriously and checks in to make sure she is caught up with her assignments.
Kassi is eager to learn and comes to class prepared with the appropriate supplies and materials she needs. She is able to focus on her schoolwork and works hard to make learning gains even when those around her lose their focus.
Kassi has a great sense of humor and brings smiles to Mohawk Middle School.”
Maya Chanley - 11th grade nominated by MHS Staff
“Maya Chanley was an easy choice this month for the ESPy award. Her strong work ethic and academic performance, paired with her positive attitude, and leadership, make her an ideal choice for this recognition.
Maya is always on time and ready to work. She is committed to learning and is not content with achieving the minimum. She wants to understand and will put in the time and work to do so. All teachers report that she is a pleasure to work with and look forward to having her in class.
Maya is equally committed to being a leader at school, representing the best of Mohawk, and an athlete, putting in extra hours to be the best volleyball, basketball, and softball player she can be. She holds herself to a high standard and is a great example for her peers.
Maya is friendly to staff and students alike. She is an excellent ambassador for Mohawk, and we feel very lucky to have her as a student.”
These students are all shining examples of the MSD spirit, and we are thrilled to be able to recognize them for being exceptional students.
