Marcola School District Board Members want to Recognize our students monthly for exceptional performance at school.
ESPY: Exceptional Student Performance this Year – award is given to students who are doing well academically and have an exceptionally positive attitude about school. They demonstrate respect and responsibility towards staff and their peers. They show courage by not conforming to Peer pressure and refuse to accept anyone who bullies.
The MSD School Board and the District want to recognize these students by celebrating their success at the beginning of each Board Meeting each month. Students receive a certificate, meet each of our Board members, and their names are announced on the district website.
May 2023 ESPY Winners are;
Arthur Ericson - 5th grade nominated by Alan Shafer
“Arthur is an amazing young man who strives every day to be his best. He shows up ready to learn, works hard to complete all his work, and turns in everything on time.
Arthur consistently demonstrates respect and responsibility by having no behavior incidents. Arthur is kind and positive towards his peers and adults. He is always ready to help out or provide encouragement to his peers.
Arthur is always one of the first students to turn in his work. When he receives an assignment, Arthur doesn't waste any time. He gets to work right away, he will ask questions if he isn't sure of something. Arthur is a hard worker to strives to be his best.
Beyond remaining exceptional in all areas for the month. Arthur has remained exceptional in all areas all school year."
Sawyer Turpin- 6th grade nominated by MMS Staff
"Sawyer is respectful to others and demonstrates responsible behavior. She's hard-working and focused in class, even when others may not be.
Sawyer has a big heart and is respectful to others. During intervention last week, she'd finished her work and asked if she could help a student who was struggling to get started with their writing assignment. Pretty impressive to see a 6th grader being such a positive role model and offering to work with an upper-class student.
Sawyer is attentive in class and actively participates in class discussions, sharing her thoughts and ideas. She's "stepped out of her comfort zone", is thoughtfully expanding her written responses on her Language Arts assignments, and is making big gains in her Math performance.
Sawyer can be counted upon to be a positive role model for others. She's hard-working, encourages others when they can use it, and is able to balance academics, sports, and caring for her steer. ”
Brody Robinson - 10th grade nominated by MHS Staff
“Brody Robinson has been selected as the final ESPY winner of the year because of his work ethic, his desire to do what is right, and the success he has had in the classroom and beyond.
Brody has one of the highest attendance rates in the high school, and this is a key reason for his significant growth in academic skills over the course of the year, specifically in the area of math. Brody is willing to put in effort, even in areas he does not enjoy, in order to grow and show respect for Mohawk staff.
Brody can be counted on as a leader amongst his peers. He is a terrific athlete, and his work ethic is contagious within the classroom, weight room, or on the field of play. Brody is willing to try new things and encourage those around him.
Brody treats other students, athletic opponents, and staff with respect and does not participate in bullying or negative social interaction. He is a strong example of the type of student leader we want to have at Mohawk, and we are proud of the growth he has shown this year.”
These students are all shining examples of the MSD spirit, and we are thrilled to be able to recognize them for being exceptional students.
