Our Story

We have faced numerous challenges in improving the nutritional quality of school meals. As a rural school district, high-quality whole foods and ingredients can be expensive or simply unavailable in our area. Because of staffing constraints, our nutrition program has been entirely "heat and serve." Our student body has been unfamiliar with healthy foods and has been conditioned to crave added salts and sugars. There is only one store within a 7-mile radius of our schools, and none within 15 miles that has a significant fresh produce selection. Our small staff works extremely hard, but their capacity is limited, we are here to teach students how to incorporate healthier foods into the menu on a daily basis.
